Cheer-up-that-chair

Today I went op-shopping, and on my 'to find' list was an old wooden chair.

I found one for four dollars at the Super Shed.

After pulling off its ugly green seat cover I discovered this beautiful William Morris esque fabric hiding underneath (It could be Morris & Co. fabric, I should find out someday!)

Next step was to paint the chair to match my room.
I easily removed the seat...

Then began painting.
(I didn't sand it because I want to be able to restore it back easily if I ever feel so inclined)

A few coats later...

Then I toyed with the idea of keeping the Morris-esque fabric showing because I did really like it, however it was dirty and faded and just didn't work with the room and the vibe.

So I stuck with my original plan. Which was...

I bought some beautiful fabric from the Fabric House on Madras street, which as you can see was priced at $38 a meter (yes this is where rich people buy their curtain fabric from) so I asked if I could get .25 of a meter (which is usually pretty standard at fabric shops) 'No, we only sell by the meter' they say.
I look at the fabric longingly and said 'oh but I only want to cover one chair seat'... they took pity on me and say 'okay, because the shop is quiet right now we will ring .25m through as a remnant for you, but don't come back expecting we will do it for you again! Cause we sell by the meter only.' I thanked her greatly and though knowing the fabric would be a bit short for what I needed I took it anyway.

So, long story short I had to cut the material in half and sew it together to work for me.

But I was happy with the result.
I then hot glued it on to the base of the seat (Hot glue is fine to hold it in place, the chair frame holds it in place too) and won't ruin the other material underneath either.

Then before I knew it, it was finished!

A cheap way to get a really fancy chair.

However now after seeing these clocks I want to buy a jigsaw and start cutting shapes into wood. Perhaps this chair could be a two step process!
